Traveling Art and Music Exhibition
"Cultivating a unique relationship
between a historical city and a modern expression"
My inspiration for the exterior of the structure was conceptualized while studying sheet music. As I drew lines to connect the notes, I learned about the movement in which music creates. I wanted to simulate this movement within the exterior. I mimicked the staff of the sheet music with the skeletal structure & canopies. The waves that connect these notes is represented by the luminous light created by the canopies - dancing around the construction lines of the sheet music & structure.
For each city that the exhibition will visit, sound data will be collected from multiple locations around the environment with small recordable sound technology. This technology will send its data feed to one of the four sound pavilion hubs where the data will be processed. The sound pavilion hubs will be strategically placed around each unique community in an effort to invoke excitement for the exhibition, advertise events, as well as ticket purchasing for such events.
The Final Site for the Exhibition will be Eakins oval. This site will serve as a perfect location, for this type of public intervention, due to its central location and inclusion in the famous "cultural mile". Not only do residents of Philadelphia interact with the parkway on a regular basis, these sites also attract thousands of outside visitors every year, allowing for a promising number of participants during the course of the Sound and Vision exhibition.
Sound and Vision is a temporary, traveling art exhibition that will begin its tour around the world with the City of Philadelphia, in the summer of 2035. The exhibition will insert its self into each unique urban landscape for the duration of one summer. During the course of Sound and Vision’s stay in a city, the interactive experience will strive to reach out to the community in an effort to re-connect, re-engage and re-invigorate a sense of a unified city and therefore, community.
